(Edit added to bottom of review on results of taking the exam)Bought this book thinking it was the most up-to-date, insightful CISSP book. While it is insightful, this 8th edition explains RSA as "most commonly used with the symmetric algorithm DES, which is quickly being replaced with AES." .... Now hold up, who the heck uses DES anymore?? Luckily, I have access to a 5th edition at work and was curious to see what the 5th edition (published in 2010) had to say about RSA... THE EXACT FREAKING THING. Word for word. And after looking and comparing many sections of text throughout the books, a lot of it is the same, again, word for word. So if you have access to an older edition book, which I'm sure your workplace has a few, some colleagues that have already passed the CISSP whom may have a book or two, get your books from them and save your money. Then watch youtube videos and search the web for the newer content (cloud, attribute-based access control, etc.) and don't focus on the stuff that is TOO technical. If you don't have access to prior books, then by all means get it and the Sybex book for variation. Also, Larry Greenblatt's CISSP videos for $100 are great. I highly recommend those. And for practice tests, other than the ones provided by this book series and Sybex, I have really enjoyed the Boson practice exams (Don't remember the price but worth it).Edit: Passed the exam on my first attempt. I feel invincible right now. I have ~6 years of experience within these domains. A lot of hours put in every week (10-30) for the past few months.What helped me prepare for the exam, as mentioned earlier in my review, were the boson exams and Larry Greenblatts videos. Both sources are well worth the money. A book is nice to have to flip through the pages and to highlight things but to add to my earlier review on this book: 1) this book would repeat itself several times. Repetition is good I know, but there so much that the book could be 100-200 pages shorter... I’d rather re-read the book but IMO 2) the isc2 exam outline specifically states what is on the exam, the sections of this book that reflect the exam outline sections are maybe a paragraph long and not worth the read. Why waste the readers time? 3) after attempting the exams questions in the book (I didn’t not try the online test bank), I feel as though these questions are too granular on out-dated or irrelevant information. U.S. laws, etc. not saying there aren’t good questions but in a “all-in-all” viewpoint. The test is more globally concentrated now. Again, could’ve shortened the book by another ~200 pages.My viewpoints on the irrelevant granularity are with the exam in mind. More knowledge is better but just do not beat yourself up on a practice exam you score 60-70% on. Chances are some of those questions are too technical for the exam and that information can be put off til another time to learn about.To bring it all back to a point, boson exams & Larry Greenblatts video have my accreditation. I just bought the book.Regarding the Amazon services: Very good, but additional care should be taken in shipping paperback books.Regarding book: No e-book included... In 2018 – 2019 it is important to have paper books, but also very important is e-book version in order to keep an easier track of the learning when you are not at office or home premises and cannot have your book with you....For what I checked around and a quick look and compare of the book with previous edition, better stay on the 7-th edition. It's almost the same content, but it has e-book version included and is hard cover.
